While fireplaces can create a cozy and warm environment, it is essential to prioritize safety. Taking appropriate precautions is necessary to protect both family members and property. Keeping children and pets away from the stove while it is in use is crucial, as the metal of the furnace becomes very hot and can cause burns. Installing fences or safety doors around the fireplace is an effective way to ensure their safety.

Furthermore, it is important to keep all flammable materials at least 3 feet away from the furnace. This includes fuels, inflammable items, papers, books, and furniture. Having a fire extinguisher in the room where the fireplace is located is also recommended for emergencies.

When planning to burn the fire overnight or for an extended period, it is suggested to open the air valve and add some larger pieces of hard wood to the fire. After approximately 25 minutes, the valve should be closed to its normal position to prevent smoke generation. This helps avoid the formation of cold and condensed water in the chimney and the buildup of residue.

Finally, it is best to let the fire in the fireplace naturally extinguish itself rather than using water to extinguish it. Sprinkling water on a hot fire can cause steam and create unnecessary hazards.
